TEXT: MATTHEW 6:9-13

INTRODUCTION:

The normal christian life should  be a life of a regular, daily answer to prayers. In the model  prayer (the lord’s prayer) Jesus taught his disciples to pray daily for bread and expect to  get it. Nevertheless, there are attitude that will move God to answer prayer as stated below:

  1. A HUMBLE PRAYER.
  2. THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION.
  3. PRAYER WITH BURDEN.
  4. A PRAYER ACCORDING TO GOD’SWILL.
  5. A PRAYER OF FAITH.
  6. A PRAYER OF GRATITUDE.

A HUMBLE PRAYER

Humility is the quality of being humble:to be humble is to lower the position, status of oneself or another.  In Luke 18: 10-14 Jesus narrates the story of two that went to the temple to pray, one lifting up himself while the other humbled himself. (class mention some attitude that signifies or self exaltation). the humble person sees himself in the perspective in relation to God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

What is confession? The scripture states that whosoever confesseth and foresaketh…….(prov 28:13). To confess is to admit to a sin, crime, mistake,or wrong and to make it known to God. (1st John 1:9). Why is tit necessary that one will confess his sin before God?? One can appease the mind of God and make him answer prayer by his confession of sin(s).

PRAYER WITH BURDEN

We may not need to define or explain what burden is, but if  a person has a serious concern that drives him to God that can be described as prayer with burden. The Bible described burden as:
  • Bitterness of soul ( 1st sam. 1:10)
  • vexed soul (2nd king 4:27)
  • contrite spirit (psalm 34:18)
  • A broken heart or spirit (psalm 51:17)
  • Anguish spirit ( job 7:11)
  • Agony (luke 22: 44)
The only action open to those individuals was turn to God in prayer. God, on his part moves swiftly to bring the answer. Burden in the heart of a christian gives real meaning to prayers. If a Christian only prays, in competition with peers as to fulfill all righteousness, just to show presence etc. no matter hour or days spent, it might be hypocrisy an outward display of prayerfulness. That was what the lord rebuked in the pharisees (matt 6:5 ; luke 18:2) (class what brings burden in some praying christian?). A prayer that
God answer is not a boastful life. It is a life of burden offload to God in prayer.

VERSE OF THE WEEK JAMES 5:16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
